A PARTNERSHIP TO KNOW HOW TO FACE CLIMATE RISKS

A PARTNERSHIP TO KNOW HOW TO FACE CLIMATE RISKS

Improving the resilience of young citizens to the risks deriving from natural phenomena also due to climate change such as earthquakes, eruptions and fires: this is the goal of the GEN YOU RESIST project presented as part of the Erasmus Plus program by MEDORO as part of a European partnership that also includes the Inincite Association for France and the Development and Innovation Association for European Culture and Education for Turkey.

GEN YOU RESIST intends in particular:

1. Raise awareness and prepare young citizens: provide practical educational tools to inform and educate young citizens about natural hazards and teach them prevention, protection and evacuation procedures.

2. Strengthen non-technical skills: develop skills such as crisis communication, leadership in emergency situations and the management of emotions and stress, in order to ensure effective collective management of crisis situations.

3. To promote cooperation between 3 territories (Corsica, Sicily, Turkey) through the exchange of good practices and intervention strategies.

4. Strengthen civic engagement and participation: Encourage young citizens to actively participate in risk management in their communities, while promoting volunteering and solidarity projects and promoting the participation of young people and adults in prevention and intervention initiatives.

The target audiences are essentially two:

-        young people (13–30 years old), especially those most exposed to risks from natural phenomena

-        educators, tutors and lecturers in order to improve their ability to engage, educate and empower local youth.

To achieve its aims, the project includes among other things:

-        the development of simulation-based learning activities for young people, through interactive sessions, games, field exercises and participatory mapping to develop risk awareness and collective preparedness.

-         the implementation of workshops for the strengthening of resilience capacities for youth workers who will be provided with tools for awareness, involvement and risk preparedness

-        activities for the exploitation and capitalization of the project results, such as shared digital tools, local awareness events and dissemination materials to promote the involvement of young Europeans on resilience.
