An important step towards sustainable and identity-based tourism comes fromthe Union of Municipalities of the Madonie, which has obtained funding of 260,000 euros as part of the Public Notice "Promotion of experiential and responsible tourism", financed with funds from the Pr Fesr Sicily 2021/2027 - Action 4.6.2. The announcement was made official with the publication of the provisional results approved on 10 July 2025 by the commission in charge of evaluating the projects. The proposal presented by the Union ranked fifth in the ranking, among the best at regional level.
The selected project has a title that sums up its spirit well: "Madonie... experience them by bike... and not only that...!!". An ambitious and innovative plan, which aims to enhance the villages and landscapes of the Madonie area through cycle tourism, soft mobility and direct experience of the territory. The concept of "identity narration" is central, i.e. telling the story of the territory to those who cross it slowly and curiously, generating authentic links with places and communities. The project will have the support of the Italian Cycling Federation, starting from the first experiences of Bike Hospitality. Of particular importance is the collaboration with the partner Discover Italia, ETS specialized in the design of routes and services dedicated to active tourism. The goal is to build an integrated, quality tourist offer, which involves all the municipalities of the Union with events, itineraries, training and coordinated promotion.
With the approval of the provisional results, we are now entering the preparatory phase for the start of the activities, which will be scheduled in the coming months. The Union of Municipalities of the Madonie looks to the future with a concrete and shared spirit: sustainability, participation and enhancement of the internal territories will be the pillars of the entire path.
